How Bail Works in Miami-Dade County

Arrests in Miami-Dade County are made by the Miami-Dade Police Department and the police departments of all 34 municipalities in the county, including the City of Miami Police Department, the Miami Beach Police Department, as well as state and federal agencies. After arrest, nearly all defendants are transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center for initial booking and processing. TGK is the county's designated booking and release center, processing hundreds of intakes daily. From there, defendants may be transferred to the Pre-Trial Detention Center or Metro West depending on their charges and custody status.

Customer support in local bail bond agency office

First appearance in Miami-Dade County takes place in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit, typically within 24 hours of arrest. The Eleventh Circuit holds felony bond hearings virtually Monday through Friday at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and once daily on weekends and holidays following misdemeanor arraignments at 9 a.m. All weekend hearings are held in Courtroom 1-5 at the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building, according to the Miami-Dade Clerk of Court. The Eleventh Circuit has its own administrative order governing first appearance proceedings, which supplements the uniform statewide bond schedule established under Florida Statute 903.011 on January 1, 2024. Judges use the statewide schedule as a starting point alongside the MDCR's pretrial assessment tool, but can adjust bond based on the specific facts of each case under Florida Statute 903.046.

Defendants on felony pretrial release, probation, or community control at the time of arrest, those designated as sexual offenders or predators, or those charged with violating a protective injunction do not follow the same schedule. Instead, those defendants wait for an individualized determination at first appearance before any release can occur.

Bond can be posted at TGK, generally between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. BailBonds.com coordinates directly with the relevant facility to prepare the paperwork and file the bond. You don't need to come to the jail or our office. Your agent monitors the process and stays in contact until release is confirmed.

Find an Inmate in Miami-Dade County

Because Miami-Dade processes a high volume of arrests daily, a person's booking record may not appear in the system immediately after arrest. TGK handles initial intake for all agencies in the county, so that's usually the right place to start. A full name and date of birth are enough to begin the search. If you have a jail number, use it.

Miami-Dade County Arrest Data and What to Expect

The Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department books approximately 114,000 inmates per year, roughly 312 per day, according to department records. That volume places the MDCR among the eight largest county jail systems in the country. The sheer scale of the system means booking and processing at TGK can take significantly longer during high-volume periods, late-night hours, or when arrests come in clusters across multiple agencies simultaneously.

Defendants held on more serious charges may wait longer for a first appearance slot given the court's twice-daily felony bond hearing schedule. If the arrest happened late on a Friday, the next available weekend hearing slot may be Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Your agent will track the case and keep you informed as it progresses through each stage.

It depends heavily on which facility is involved and when the arrest occurred. TGK processes hundreds of bookings daily and release timing reflects that volume. Felony bond hearings run twice a day on weekdays and once on weekends. After bond is posted, release is processed at TGK. Your BailBonds.com agent stays in contact with the facility and updates you as the case moves forward.

A judge in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit sets bond at first appearance using the uniform statewide bond schedule as a starting point alongside the MDCR's pretrial assessment tool, with full discretion to adjust based on the factors in Florida Statute 903.046. Felony bond hearings are conducted virtually, Monday through Friday at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and once daily on weekends.

Florida law sets the premium for a surety bail bond at 10% of the total bond amount for state bonds and 15% for federal bonds. These rates apply statewide and are the same for every licensed bondsman. If bond is set at $25,000, the premium is $2,500. That amount is not refunded when the case concludes.

Yes. BailBonds.com handles intake by phone and text. You do not need to visit the jail or our office.

A missed court appearance triggers bond forfeiture and a bench warrant. In a system as active as Miami-Dade's, warrants are processed quickly. Contact BailBonds.com immediately if this happens.
