The city was named after General Sam Houston who won the Battle of San Jacinto. The railroad industry and oil discovery in 1901 promoted population growth. This has made Houston the most diverse city in Texas. Anywhere you have such a large population crime is abundant. In 1800’s there was no shortage of prostitution, fraud, murder and theft. Back in those wild west times the perpetrator could face the lynch mob. If you were arrested you sat in jail unless your mob were able to bust you out. Then you were on the run from the Bounty Hunters who could, at times, take you in dead or alive.
Houston is in the top 5 most populated cities in the country, with such a large population there is a demanding need for bail bondsmen.
Today Houston is where NASA’s Johnson Space Center and Mission Control Center are located. The phrase “Houston we have a problem” is known everywhere, ever since the Astronauts spoke those words back in 1970. This is a slight misquotation though, the phrase spoken by James Lovell and John Swigert, Jr was actually “Houston, we’ve had a problem”
